Tinea caused by different fungi typically by TRICHOPHYTON, MICROSPORUM, EPIDERMOPHYTON etc. these fungi leaves on dead keratin layer of skin and flourishes on it. Fungus affects different parts of the body like skin, hair, nail, scalp. It can cause hair loss on the affected part.
As fungus is very contagious and rapid growing it flourishes on warm, moist area. It easily spreads from animal to human. Patient will develop symptoms like red, scaly, itchy, raised patch on skin which causes irritation and burning. That patch is redder outside and resembles like ring. There are two stages of lesion-primary and secondary. In primary stage blister formation occurs and will convert in to secondary lesion of ring And circular skin rash.
Patient may develop tinea of nail leads to thinking of nail and brittle nail.
Diagnosis of ring worm is done by doctors by examining the lesion under black light and KOH test if needed.
Some preventive steps will helpful to stop spread like maintain proper hygiene, and maintain nail hygiene. Avoid sharing cloths, sports equipment, towels and sheets. Frequent hand washing after touching surfaces, avoid walking bare feet on grass.
Laundry hygiene is very important if you get tinea like wash your cloths separately in hot water with use of fungicides and dry them in sunlight. Wear loose clothing.
